Description
The mother of a girl about one and a half years old sought help because her daughter was allergic to several foods. Contact with cashews caused significant swelling in the facial area, particularly around the lips, eyes, and ears, sometimes accompanied by difficulty breathing when inhaling. After consuming eggs, her face also swelled. When exposed to dairy products, the child developed a dry cough and hives.
Over the course of a few sessions, it became clear that several stressful situations had occurred during the pregnancy, all of which were associated with intense fear for the child’s life or health.
One situation involved giving up Camembert (milk protein). The mother had previously eaten this food regularly and enjoyed it very much. During her pregnancy, a friend pointed out to her that Camembert might be harmful to the unborn child. This information triggered intense fear for the child’s health. From that moment on, she completely avoided Camembert and has not felt any craving for it since (up to the present).
A particularly intense situation arose in the third month of pregnancy. During an ultrasound examination, the mother was told that an egg-shaped cyst in the brain and a heart defect might be visible in the child. The patient found both the examination and the way she was treated to be extremely unpleasant and threatening. The next follow-up examination was not scheduled until six weeks later. In this context, she recalled the three little monkeys—one covering its eyes, the other its mouth and ears—as this situation was shocking and highly unpleasant.
During this time, the mother experienced a phase of intense anxiety and preoccupation with the possibility that her child might be ill or that the child’s survival might be compromised. She described a classic active conflict phase—during which she was constantly preoccupied with worries and thoughts about her child’s health and slept poorly.
At the next examination, it was finally determined that neither the suspected cyst nor the heart defect could be confirmed and that everything was fine. At that moment, the mother’s intense tension lifted.
In addition, the mother described another stressful situation during a medical examination. During this visit, she felt ignored, not taken seriously, and unseen. She also felt strongly pressured by a doctor to undergo certain tests. This situation triggered a strong sense of threat and emotional stress in the mother.
During her pregnancy, the mother regularly ate cashew mousse as a substitute for sauce, and this food was part of her diet almost daily. Eggs were also a frequent part of her breakfast, for example, combined with avocado. Since, during the pregnancy, Camembert in particular could be clearly linked to an intense anxiety-inducing situation, while cashew mousse and eggs were consumed almost daily, no single specific conflict situation could be identified, it can be concluded that the nervous system of the mother or the child linked these frequently consumed foods to the intense emotional states experienced at that time, without a single specific event (state of shock) being clearly identifiable—since in all the described situations, the stressful situations involved great fear/panic related to the context of life and death.
In the course of the therapeutic process, in addition to the topic of allergies, other related aspects such as health concerns, issues of control, and emotional stress were addressed. The mother worked intensively on this both during the sessions and through numerous exercises and self-reflection at home. Part of this work was done together with her daughter and with the support of her husband, which overall led to noticeable positive changes.
After working through the stressful situations together, the mother reported that she had become significantly calmer in dealing with the issue of food. She is now able to offer her daughter a wider variety of foods again without immediately feeling intense anxiety. Interacting with other people has also become much easier for her.
The family is currently in an observation phase, during which the child’s reactions to various foods are being tested with the parents’ consent.
Note from Viola Heins:
A well-developed understanding of the cause—thank you very much. A possible approach to resolving this could be as follows:
All that remains is to explain to the child:
- that these were the mother’s fears,
- which were, moreover, unfounded,
- and which arose because of the doctor’s statements
- and not because of the coincidental consumption of cashews at the same time.
The cashews, the eggs, and the Camembert are not the reason the doctor said those things, which is why the mother became afraid. They have absolutely nothing to do with the doctor’s statement and nothing to do with the mother’s fear. They were just coincidentally present at the same time. Eating them is therefore completely harmless. No matter how many cashews I eat, it won’t suddenly cause a doctor to appear and make incorrect diagnoses.
Presumably, this explanation will flip the switch in the subconscious not only of the child but also of the mother, and the child will likely absorb the mother’s altered vibration into their system—even without fully understanding it intellectually.
