I had hay fever since I was 14 years old. At times, I also had asthma. When I was 19, I had just met someone new who invited me to spend a weekend at his relatives' farm. I was looking forward to it and went with him.

The relatives were nice, but what I never would have expected was that they would put us up in an old-fashioned farmhouse bedroom. That just wasn't the norm back then. Whenever I had stayed with someone, mothers, aunts, or grandmothers had been concerned about “my well-being” and I had been given my own place to sleep. Not this time!

This presented me with a significant challenge, as the acquaintance was too recent and I was definitely not ready for anything more. I experienced severe migraines, which I later recognized as being “obligatory” according to the principles of “new medicine.” I felt so miserable, often on the verge of vomiting, that I was “spared” the night, much to the disappointment of my acquaintance....

The next morning after breakfast, we visited the stables, where the farmhand was brushing the horse. The air was full of dust. The hay alone was getting to me and I developed asthma.
The migraine was still there, and I was taken home feeling more ill than well. Much later—at some point—I was astonished to discover that I was severely allergic to horses, which was dangerous because of my asthma. The circus visit on the occasion of the company's Christmas party was only possible with a strong dose of anti-allergy medication. And afterwards, my clothes had to be packed in bags until they were washed.

My second husband loved horses. Whenever he saw them, he couldn't resist going up to them and stroking them. This was always a problem for me, even though I understood his joy—I love animals too—and actually wanted to let him enjoy it.

Finally, at over 50 years of age and with knowledge of “new medicine,” I decided to get to the bottom of this horse allergy. While taking a long, alkaline bath, I thought about my actually rare contact with horses. And then this story came back to me. Still in the tub, I had made notes on all the emotions, fears, and feelings of distress I had experienced at the time, and I tapped on all aspects with Meridian Energy Technique (MET). Since then, the allergy has gone away and I can cuddle horses, just like my husband.
