Description

A not-so-funny story from real life:
Esophageal spasm with severe pain

My wife and I had found a kiosk in a beautiful vacation spot
where they sold fish products. Among other things, we chose a nice
piece of smoked salmon. When the saleswoman picked up the piece to
wrap it, we noticed with horror that she was wearing black
rubber gloves. I have to say that I find rubber gloves
disgusting in general—and the color black made it even worse
. At that moment, I noticed that my wife was also
grimacing. Oh well, we took the salmon anyway. It
couldn't help it.
The next day, it was served for dinner – along with pasta and other
things.

While eating, we inevitably came back to the purchase and the
rubber gloves. With that image in my mind, I practically “ate” the
whole situation – I became painfully aware of this half a day later.
Because that's when a horrible pain started in my

stomach area – all the way up to my esophagus.
Great, I thought – and now this is going to take four hours...?

Because I knew immediately what had happened: I had swallowed a lump that I
didn't really want to swallow. The salmon tasted good –
but something (the black rubber gloves) had prevented me
from enjoying it.

So: the conflict arose during eating: the feeling of swallowing something unpleasant.
The solution came when the problem lost its significance, simply because I forgot about it after eating.
The pain arose in the epileptoid crisis due to the spasm of the smooth esophageal muscles, which now repeated the counter-movement (to reverse the swallowing of the lump) with increased intensity.
Knowing that an epileptic crisis in the endodermal area (control of the smooth muscles by the midbrain, which is considered part of the endoderm) can last a maximum of 4 hours, I endured the whole thing without hyperventilating. But it really hurt quite a bit—and luckily it “only” lasted about 3 hours...
